Liminal Life Change
Have you ever made a huge life change and felt completely lost whilst the change is happening? Have you felt both happy and excited and terrified and anxious all at the same time? You may have experienced a liminal life change.
✨ The term “liminal life change” refers to a transitional period where you exist between an old identity or life stage and a new one. This can be marked by deep uncertainty and personal transformation.
It can sometimes be also described as the waiting space between where you are and where you are going - it can feel unstable and bring on anxiety and groundlessness due to old routines which were familiar no longer being around and old identities having disappeared.
✨ Despite the huge amount of discomfort that can be involved in these changes, it offers an environment to reinvent yourself and to create new perspectives.
Examples could be leaving school or university and the space between this and beginning your career, navigating the period just after a relationship has ended, letting go of an old job title or path before your new professional identity forms or moving to a new place where your old community is gone and before you have formed any new connections.
No matter how scary these feelings can be, they are a great opportunity for new beginnings. 🌻
